Additional Requirements

Remember that meeting minimum APS requirements doesn't guarantee admission. Universities also consider:

  • Specific subject requirements for each program
  • Space availability in your chosen program
  • Performance in National Benchmark Tests (NBT)
  • Achievement of Bachelor's pass or relevant pass level

Whether you’re applying to a university or college, this tool provides an easy and accurate way to calculate your APS score and determine your chances of acceptance into your desired field of study.

How to Calculate Your APS:

  1. Identify Your Subjects: List all the subjects you completed in your NSC exams.
  2. Exclude Non-Scoring Subjects: Typically, Life Orientation and any Advanced Programme (AP) subjects are excluded from APS calculations.
  3. Convert Your Marks to APS Points: Use the following scale to convert your percentage marks into APS points:80% – 100% = 7, 70% – 79% = 6, 60% – 69% = 5, 50% – 59% = 4, 40% – 49% = 3, 30% – 39% = 2, 0% – 29% = 1
  4. Calculate Your Total APS: Add the APS points of your top six subjects (excluding Life Orientation) to get your total APS.
