What Is the Powerball Number Generator?

This tool creates random, unbiased number combinations for the South African PowerBall lottery. Instead of manually picking numbers or using the in-store Quick Pick option, you can generate your combination here, then use it when you buy your ticket in-store, online, or through your banking app.

How to Play South Africa PowerBall

PowerBall is operated by Sizekhaya Holdings, the National Lottery operator since June 2026. To play, you choose five main numbers from a pool of 1 to 50, plus one PowerBall number from a separate pool of 1 to 16. Your PowerBall number can match one of your main numbers, since it’s drawn from an entirely different set.

  • Step 1: Select five unique numbers between 1 and 50.
  • Step 2: Select one PowerBall number between 1 and 16.
  • Step 3: Purchase your board for R10, or add PowerBall Xtra for an extra R5 to enter the supplementary draw with the same numbers.

A standard PowerBall board costs R10. Adding PowerBall Xtra, which replaced the previous PowerBall Plus add-on, costs an additional R5 per board and gives you a second chance to win with the same numbers in a separate draw.

Powerball Draw Days and Times

PowerBall and PowerBall Xtra draws take place every Tuesday and Friday at 21:00 SAST. Ticket sales typically close around 20:30 on draw days, so make sure your numbers are in before then.

How This Generator Works

The generator uses a random number function to select five unique values from the 1 to 50 pool for your main numbers, then separately selects one value from the 1 to 16 pool for your PowerBall number. Each number has an equal chance of being selected, and the main numbers can never repeat within a single generated set, just as they can’t on an official ticket.

Odds of Winning PowerBall

Since the June 2026 rule change reduced the PowerBall pool from 20 numbers to 16, the odds of matching the PowerBall on its own have improved. To win the jackpot, you still need to match all five main numbers plus the PowerBall.

Jackpot Odds Formula:

Odds = C(50,5) × 16

The number of ways to choose 5 numbers from a pool of 50, without repetition, is 2,118,760. Multiplying this by the 16 possible PowerBall numbers gives total combinations of 33,900,160. This means the odds of matching all six numbers in a single draw are approximately 1 in 33.9 million.

Lower prize divisions require matching fewer numbers, for example just the PowerBall on its own, and carry significantly better odds than the jackpot tier.

A Note on Number Selection Strategies

Every PowerBall draw is an independent, random event. Numbers that have been drawn frequently in the past (“hot” numbers) are not more likely to be drawn again, and numbers that haven’t appeared in a while (“cold” numbers) are not “due” to come up.

Each of the 33.9 million possible combinations has exactly the same probability of being drawn, whether you choose your numbers based on birthdays, patterns, or a random generator like this one. Using a generator won’t improve your odds over manually picking numbers, but it does remove any bias toward commonly chosen numbers like birth dates, which can matter if you’d prefer not to split a jackpot with other winners.
