What Is the PowerBall Xtra Number Generator?
This tool creates random, unbiased number combinations for PowerBall Xtra, the add-on draw that gives PowerBall players a second chance to win with the same numbers. PowerBall Xtra was previously known as PowerBall Plus, and was renamed when Sizekhaya Holdings took over as the National Lottery operator on 1 June 2026. Instead of manually picking numbers or using the in-store Quick Pick option, you can generate your combination here, then use it when you buy your ticket in-store, online, or through your banking app.
How to Play PowerBall Xtra
PowerBall Xtra uses the same number pool as the main PowerBall draw: five main numbers from 1 to 50, plus one PowerBall number from 1 to 16. PowerBall Xtra is not a standalone game. You can only add it to a main PowerBall board you’re already buying, and your same five numbers plus PowerBall number are automatically entered into both draws.
Step 1: Select five unique numbers between 1 and 50.
Step 2: Select one PowerBall number between 1 and 16.
Step 3: Add PowerBall Xtra to your main PowerBall board for an extra R5.
A standard PowerBall board costs R10. Adding PowerBall Xtra costs a further R5 per board, giving you a second, independent draw using the same numbers.
PowerBall Xtra Draw Days and Times
PowerBall Xtra draws take place immediately after the main PowerBall draw, every Tuesday and Friday at 21:00 SAST. Ticket sales typically close around 20:30 on draw days.
How This Generator Works
The generator uses a random number function to select five unique values from the 1 to 50 pool for your main numbers, then separately selects one value from the 1 to 16 pool for your PowerBall number. Each number has an equal chance of being selected, and the main numbers can never repeat within a single generated set, just as they can’t on an official ticket.
Odds of Winning PowerBall Xtra
Since PowerBall Xtra shares the same 5-from-50 plus 1-from-16 format as the main PowerBall draw, the odds are identical to PowerBall itself.
Jackpot Odds Formula:
Odds = C(50,5) × 16
The number of ways to choose 5 numbers from a pool of 50, without repetition, is 2,118,760. Multiplying this by the 16 possible PowerBall numbers gives total combinations of 33,900,160. This means the odds of matching all six numbers in a single PowerBall Xtra draw are approximately 1 in 33.9 million, the same as the main PowerBall draw.
Because PowerBall Xtra numbers are drawn separately from the main PowerBall numbers, your one set of chosen numbers effectively gets two independent shots at a jackpot for a relatively small extra cost.
The Jackpot Cascade Feature
PowerBall Xtra introduced a Jackpot Cascade feature under the new Sizekhaya rules. If nobody matches all five numbers plus the PowerBall in the final draw of a calendar month, the jackpot money is shared out among Division 2 winners instead of rolling over indefinitely. This means PowerBall Xtra jackpots are guaranteed to pay out at least once a month, even if not to a sole jackpot winner.
A Note on Number Selection Strategies
Every PowerBall Xtra draw is an independent, random event, separate even from the main PowerBall draw held moments earlier using the same numbers you chose. Numbers that have come up frequently in past draws are not more likely to be drawn again, and numbers that haven’t appeared recently aren’t “due” for a win.
Each of the 33.9 million possible combinations carries exactly the same probability of being drawn. Using a generator won’t shorten your odds compared to picking numbers manually, but it does avoid the bias many players show toward birthdates and other meaningful numbers, which can lead to a bigger split if you do win.
